The Road to a Family — April 25, 2017

The Road to a Family

Back from China, Remi immediately ran to the stables to greet Crusade. He had been tended by a hired stablehand for the duration of their vacation, and Remi had been worried about him acting up. He had been wonderful, and Remi rewarded him with fresh grapes.

Life resumed at it’s usual pace, with the couple attending regular appointments with the local fertility clinic. Remi was getting up there in age,and the couple worried they may struggle to conceive.

Remi spent a lot of time sleeping in the nursery she and Hassan had prepared, suppressing her anxiety and napping in the rocking chair.

Hassan took on a project to distract himself from his worries, fixing up an old car that he’d found in the local scrapyard. As he mulled over the gears and rusted parts, fear sat heavily in his belly. He wondered if this dream they had recently fallen in love with was something they couldn’t achieve. They had been married for so long, and had never really considered it…he was afraid they had missed their chance.

China! — April 23, 2017

The view! Hassan bounced in his seat as the plane landed, Remi laughing beside him.

They checked into their hotel, smiling non stop. Remi had traveled to France when she was younger, but neither Oswald had ever been to China. Once Hassan’s boss heard about the trip, he asked him to pick up Martial Arts, hinting that a promotion could be in store if he did.

With this in Mind, Hassan headed to the market, taking in the view with a huge grin on his face.

The shopping trip over- the lovebirds met up at the base to begin a hike to the Temple of the Sky. Remi had been incredibly excited to see it, chatting non stop, squeezing Hassan’s hand tightly.

After awhile the hike’s conversation took a softer turn, Remi nervously bringing up ideas for baby names.

“Isabelle? Carson…? Sean?”

Hassan squeezed her hand gently, offering up his own.

“I like Asmi, or Fatima. My Uncle was named Ifrah. He had very kind eyes.”

Remi smiled, turning pink.

“Would you prefer a boy, or a girl?” Hassam shrugged, a dreamy look in his eyes. “Either, honestly. I’m just happy you want children. I’d never really, truly considered it. Now that we’re talking about it, I love the idea. I don’t care what sex the baby is, so long as they’re healthy…and have your eyes.”

The rest of the walk was shared in warm silence, the two of them sharing fond looks. Once they reached the top of the tower, they held each other close. The sun warmed their faces as they kissed, their hearts full with thoughts of the future.

Happy Days & Progress — April 22, 2017

Happy Days & Progress

The Oswald Family has been peacefully living their lives, the house being much quieter after the puppies had been brought to their new home.

Crusade and Remi have been making incredible progress together. Most of Crusade’s aggressive behavior has abated, managed with a strict exercise regimen and lots of counter conditioning. ┬áThe near constant rain of spring made training especially sticky, but the bond that formed between Remi and Crusade was well worth the mud.

Hassan is working on advancing his career, pumping up his muscles up to impress his boss. He works at the local barracks, and the small outfit was itching for a new Private, and Hassan wanted to fill the position.

Meanwhile, Remi and Mary worked on the rather tiny garden. A few grape vines, a Ghost chili bush…it was mostly kept around for fresh fruit and cheese platters, but Remi loved it. She had maxed her gardening skill years ago, and like to grow things when the weather was warm enough.

Mary had also caught a really lovely Iguana, and Hassan quickly bought a terrarium for it, fondly calling it Berry.

The happy family ate together every night, the cats desperately watching from afar, hoping for scraps. Dinner conversations meandered over various topics; work, the garden, the cats’ hijinks. But lately, the two of them had begun wondering about whether or not to add another member to the family.┬áRemi was well into her adult stage, and brought the topic up over salad.

The two of them had discussed children before they married. Remi simply didn’t want children, and Hassan was happy with her decision. But over the years, Remi’s views had changed. She loved Hassan dearly, and the idea of creating a new life with him sounded beautiful.

After dinner, the dishes washed up, a steamy conversation took place.

“Remi, my love, how do you feel about…going to China?

The first of many… —

The first of many…

I started this blog for a couple of reasons, but one of them was to write about my struggles with chronic pain. This is one of my worst nights in awhile. One of these days I’ll explain the whole story, but it’s a long one, so not tonight. I went to the ER for the first time ever today, experiencing severe chest pain. It turns out it was my chest wall and ribs that were inflamed, and not my heart. That’s good- I’ve been struggling with tachycardia and runs of SVT lately, so I was worried. But now it’s 3 AM here and I’m in so much pain I can’t sleep. The ER doc even gave me a prescription for some painkillers- they aren’t touching it. I just want to cry. I hate nights like this. They’re long and lonely and no amount of reading or writing or painting makes them better.

A Rainy Day for a Ride

Crusade and I went out for a quick bonding session today. He was abandoned at the local Equestrian Center due to his poor behavior. I see a lot of potential in the gorgeous fellow though, so I took him in. It’s a long road, but I hope to one day compete with him.

An Introduction to the Oswalds — April 19, 2017

An Introduction to the Oswalds

We start our story somewhere in the middle. An eclectic Outdoorsy woman named Remi Oswald is happily married to her husband Hasan. They live in a newly renovated home on the western edge of Strawberry Acres with their animals, of which there are many; Crusade, an ornery stallion with fleet feet and a penchant for jumping, Henley, the aged tomcat and his mate Mary. Sweet Peach, an old mutt with a big heart helps Violet, a young English Setter raise her three pups: Poppy, Lark, and Bluebell.

In the future I’ll be more organized- for now have some random photos of the bunch!

Crusade and Remi clean up a touch.

Too many critters, too few dishes!

Violet & Poppy spend some quality time together.

Too many animals…but we wouldn’t have it any other way!

She’s too photogenic not to love.

Crusade isn’t so photogenic- surrendered to the shelter because of his bad attitude, he tends to be camera shy.

Many years ago Remi went to France and picked up her Kenspa. When the weather permits, she putters about town in it.

Greetings! —
